Langkawi, an eagle island

In the afternoon tour (it was a group tour), we met up with other visitors from China. I believed they are studying in Malaysia. Well, the first stop for the group tour was the Underwater World Langkawi. However, we don’t join them because we knew an hour was not enough for that visit. We have other plan for this visit since it is near to our resort. We have a long walk along the Cenang beach, of course it was hot.

An hour later, we departed from the Underwater World Langkawi towards to Makam Masuri (Mahsuri’s Mausoleum). Unfortunately, it was heavily rain during our visit. We can’t spend our time at the tomb but in the Mahsuri Museum. However, we are not allowed to take any photo in the Museum. What a shame. There is a legend story about Masuri, you may interest to read more at here.

The rain was stopped while we were on our way to the Eagle Square (Dataran Lang). This Eagle square was newly built near to Kuah jetty years ago. During my last visit in the year 1995, there was no Eagle Square at all. Now, this Eagle Square is serves as landmark of Langkawi. You can see a huge eagle statue looks toward to the sea. Why eagle? You may ask. Well, according to the local, Lang means Helang (eagle in Malay) and Kawi means a type of stone in that Island. In short, Langkawi means an eagle on kawi stone or it can be referred as an Eagle Island.

Eagle Square was the last stop for our group tour. After that, we have our dinner at Kuah town. After dinner, we spent our evening for shopping in town.
