It was an accident this morning when I’m carried out my laboratory work inside a laminar air flow cabinet. I need to sterile picking tool before pick the plaque from agar plate. Therefore, I have to deep partial of the picking tool with 70% ethanol then flame it and then deep to ethanol again. While doing this, I really wonder will the ethanol burns?

Well, it was after several round of sterilization! My colleague and I were tried to put out the fire inside the laminar air flow. I took out the burning ethanol fast before it got any chance to burn the whole laminar air flow. When I did that my hands were burned, I have to let the burning ethanol dropped on the floor and tried other way to put out the fire. Finally it was over, no damage caused on laminar air flow, no damage caused on my sample. However, my laboratory shoes were burned. It should be that burning ethanol! Have to buy another pair of laboratory shoes.
