Kek Lok Si, famous Buddhist temple
When my girlfriend and I were in Penang, we have visited the Kek Lok Si (the famous Buddhist temple which built in the year 1930) together with my parents and my younger sister. We don’t miss the chance to visit the 30.2m bronze statue of the goddess Kuan Yin (Buddhist Goddess of Mercy) which located at the hillside above the pagoda.
This statue is to replace the previous ones which already damaged after several months the works have completed due to the weather. This bronze statue was made in China and delivered to Penang. You can walk up the hill; alternatively you can take the “Inclined Lift”. Surprisingly the “Inclined lift” is air conditioned and we have to press the buttons for going “up” or “down” by ourselves. Well, not so difficult to do so.
The old Kuan Yin statue still remains on top of building where the “inclined lift” arrived. Besides, construction works still carry on there in order to build a roof above the Goddess of Mercy statue. The main purpose for this roof is to protect the statue which stands all day long in the burning sun or rain drop heavy on the statue. The Kek Lok Si temple was changed a lot from the previous structure. Until now, it still keeps on the renovation works and expending construction.
