From Esplanade Park to Senate Square

When we were arrived jetty at Market Square, we found that we still got time for a little walk. Therefore, we decided walked around the area near from the Market square. Still remember the brochures I mentioned before? You can get it from the tourist office or you can order them through email and it is free of charge. We went to those sightseeing places according to those brochures. From the Market Square we walked ahead to the Esplanade park. Buildings in Helsinki mostly are in 19th century design. They are beautiful, you can have a look on photos I attached here. For example, a restaurant we came across during our walking tour, Kappeli Restaurant. It was built in the year 1867 and has been extended and modernised many times. But, people here care about their heritage; although they extended it you still can see those 19th century design remained well.

We don’t know there is sightseeing also near to hostel we stayed. From the Esplanade park we arrive at the Uudenmaankatu where our hostel is. The sightseeing there is a building built in the year 1908 in National-Romantic style. After this, we made a turn to Annankatu; sound familiar? Yup, where the Malaysian Chinese restaurant is, but, we were not going for dinner. We just continue our walked until we came across a small park. By this time, the sky already turned dark. Lights were on and we start to think how about went back to hostel. But, guess what time was that? It was 4 o’clock afternoon only. So, we continued our tour. A different experience for us to see sightseeing places in dark (of course, lights were on). Walked further from that park we arrive at the former head offices of the Suomi-Salama insurance company.

When I mentioned we visited those sightseeing places in dark you may not have any idea about that, just look the photo attached you will understand better. Now, we crossed one the main roads in Helsinki, Mannerhimintie. Just in front us was The Three Smiths statue and the old student house. We tried to take some photos however it was too dark outside and our camera’s flash light is not powerful enough. We stopped out tour at Senate Square where the famous sightseeing spots in Helsinki also the place where the Cathedral is. Then, we went to supermarket bought some food to cook it at hostel for our dinner. After that, we have a small discussion where we should go to visit on the next day.
