Education system in Finland

student-in-class

I have asked my colleagues about the education system in Finland during our lunch today. We are sharing education system in Malaysia and Finland. They told me they no need to wear uniform to school. They can wear what ever they like go to school. Most of them have their hair dyed before during high school. What!? Yes, in Finland there are no school rules prohibited students dyes their hair and hair style too. So, they are free to dye their hair with any colour they like and also hair style they want.

I told them what we have in Malaysia. They really can’t believe and suprised we even have the rules for the hair style in Malaysia. Here, they were taught everyone has their right, everybody is equal especially gender equality. I tell you, Finns really practice well about gender equality. What ever job men can do, women can do also. Don’t try to disrespect ladies in Finland; you will get “trouble” on it. I really respect them on this gender equality.

Normally, they have about 25 class-mates in a class. If the school has a lot of students, the authority will going to build another school in order to make sure students have enough space for their study. From what I have understood from my colleagues, only the schools or high schools in the city have up to 1000 students. The rest of them have about 400 to 800 students in a school. In Finland, they don’t have boy school or girl school.

I think the outfit is not the matter.

The real matter is the spoon-feed style and answer according to answer scheme style. Even university is doing the same things too!

we cannot compare an apple with an orange… the mind set for Finns and ours are not the same… cultural and historical backgrounds also counts…

we also cannot compare the teaching style between Europe and Asia, since they are very distinct.

We have long practice to maintain neat uniform and outlook in our schools from our ancestors.
I don’t agree with the authority in providing our students with the freedom/ right to achieve what they want. If we are allow to tint our hair to any colour, the students would go further by breaking the school rules. We simply cannot change our standing culture.

Women have more equality in malaysia or other nation today. Other countries also adopt the same principle because the world is changing. Europe has its own gender evolution that is worth studying.
