Aug 03
There are several sightseeings in Turku. The first place we have visited was Turku Castle. We took bus (50,51,53,54,30) from Student Village to Market Square (Kauppatori). Then we took the bus no 1 which ahead to Harbour at station T36. Single bus ticket is 2€ and valid for 2 hours. If you purchase Turkucard from Turku Tourist Information Centre you are entitle to travel on local traffic buses free.
Turku Castle is one of the national heritages in Finland. The history of Turku Castle goes back to 1280′s. My colleague told me during that time the water level was much higher than nowadays. Therefore, during that time the castle was actually on an island. Peak of the Turku Castle was in the med 16th century during the rule of Duke Johan and Katarina Jagellonica. To understand more about Turku Castle, you can refer here.
We were allowed to take photo inside the castle and museum with condition not flash light. Inside the castle, you can see the Stone, Bronze, Iron Age and Medieval Exhibitions, the scale models of Duke John and Katarina Jagellonica displaying Renaissance court life, medieval wooden sculptures, collections of old toys, fire fighting equipment and also museum.
