16th BioSpymposium boat party
On 24th August I was on board one of the restaurant boats (m/s Rudolfina) on Turku River (Aurajoki). I was there because I was one of the poster presenters in 16th Biosymposium. Of cource, it was free of charge. The party was started at 7pm. This was an evening cruise to the archipelago. The cruise took about 3 hours from Turku to archipelago then return to Turku. Dinner was served on board. During the cruise, the organizers had invited the Student Union Choir of University of Turku as our live entertainment. Don’t ask me what songs they were sung on board. I only can tell you they were Finnish songs because I can’t understand even one of them.
From the boat, I saw the old ships by the River Aura, Turku Castle, Pikisaari Isle, Ruissalo Isle with its old charming villas and the open Airisto. I have a chance to see the Naantali Bay, the Old Town of Naantali and Kultaranta, the summer residence of the President of Finland. However, by that time it was already a bit dark outside. My camera’s flash light is not powerful enough to allow me snapped some nice and sharp photos. What a shame. Maybe next time I will take more photos when my girlfrilend and I on board other restaurant boat in future. Along the cruise, I saw a lot of cottages and villas too. Guess, what is the different between cottage and villa and also resorts?
The dinner was in buffet style. Start with cold dishes: crayfish-baltic herrings, baltic herring rolls, aura-cheese Baltic herring steaks, herrings in mustard sauce, herrings in sour cream-honey sauce, decorated egg halves, spiced pickled salmon, saltmarinated salmon, warm smoked salmon, west coast salad, shiitake salad, green salad, marinated garlic, olives, sun dried tomatoes, chicken breast, salted brisket of beef, smoked ham. Then, warm dishes: meat, chicken, fish, vegetables, boiled potatoes/creamed potatoes/rice, Cheese assortment, bread á la ship, dark-brown bread (speciality from archipelago) and dessert. I drank a lot of red wine and white wine on board. But, luckily I’m not drunk. It was funny when you have your meal on the boat, you will felt that you were drunk because the waves made the boat wag all the time.
