What is special in Amsterdam? If you ask, we will tell you the bicycles. Biking is common practice in Amsterdam. Citizens of Amsterdam use bicycle as their vehicle for daily activities. You can find the bicycle paths and bike racks throughout the city. There even a 3 levels building serves as bicycle parking lot (have a look on the picture) near to the Amsterdam Train Central Station. Can you imagine how many bicycles you can find in the city? Many bicycles are stolen every year, therefore, local have their bike locked with big and fat chain together with lock. You can imagine how heavy is the chain with lock. But, the Dutch ladies just carry it inside their handbag. Hummm…… (more…)

Last day in Amsterdam. But, we still have whole morning and afternoon time for our visit before we left for Finland. We visited one of the landmark of Netherlands, Windmill or Molen De Gooyer at Funenkade. This windmill is located near to the city centre. It is a cafe nowadays than corn mill. We walked further to the Oost district then Artis Zoo (Natura Artis Magistra). Since we don’t have much time left, we don’t buy tickets for the Zoo. We spent our third day of our trip a bit further from the city centre. This times we took tram (our legs were tired after walked a lot yesterday) to the Museums district. Stopped at Leidseplein square then we walked towards the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. The Heineken Experience is near to the Rijksmuseum but we don’t plan to get ourselves drunk in the afternoon. After visited Anne Frank House, we went to China town for our lunch, I had roasted duck rice and my wife had roasted duck noodle as lunch. Yummy… but don’t mention the service. (more…)

On the second day, we visited the famous Anne Frank House museum. Luckily, we were there early if not the Q will be very long. However, visitors are not allow to take any picture inside the museum. Can’t share pictures at here. How about a virtual tour at the official site. This was the hiding place of Anne Frank’s family during second World War II when German army controlled the Netherlands and applied anti-Jewish measures there. During hiding time, Anne Frank kept a diary. (more…)

Before we left for Amsterdam, friends of us reminded us don’t forget to pay China town a visit. They told us we can find many Chinese cuisines (roasted duck, roasted chicken, roasted pork and so on) which we used to have back home. Of course, we don’t forget this. China town of Amsterdam is located in the Red light district. From the red light district walked towards the Central Train station then we arrived at China town. (more…)

We started our tour in Amsterdam after a short rest. In Amsterdam, it is not difficult to find Asian cuisines, for that night we had Indonesian food as our dinner. Yup, both of us missed Asian food we used to have in Malaysia. The dinner was good and the service was great too. After dinner, we walked toward the famous night life area of Amsterdam, the Red light district (highlighted in map above). (more…)

Last Thursday, we had our short vacation in Amsterdam, Netherlands. We arrived at the Central Train Station of Amsterdam in late afternoon. Situation there is a bit messy due to construction works around the Central Train Station. It is a bit hard to find the way. Luckily the length of day is long in Summer, the sky still bright if not we have to walk in dark. (more…)
