Amsterdam Red light district

We started our tour in Amsterdam after a short rest. In Amsterdam, it is not difficult to find Asian cuisines, for that night we had Indonesian food as our dinner. Yup, both of us missed Asian food we used to have in Malaysia. The dinner was good and the service was great too. After dinner, we walked toward the famous night life area of Amsterdam, the Red light district (highlighted in map above).

As mentioned in the name, Red light district, you can see many red florescences or red bulbs on the top of glass windows or doors. Sex workers are sitting behind there and waiting for their client(s). Certain glass doors were covered by curtain, we guessed “the service” was carried on inside that room. Yes, it is room behind red florescences illuminated glass door or window. We saw bed, basin perhaps shower in the room of course the curtain was opened and no one inside there. Always remember when you are in red light district, taking picture or video of the red light illuminated windows or door is strictly forbidden. It will be a bit messy if you do that (have a look on >this video clip).

Still not enough about the picture of red light district? Well, perhaps you can have “a virtual tour” by the Amsterdam Information. Prostitution is legal in Netherlands and mostly centralized at Red light district. If you are interested to know about prostitution in Amsterdam have a look on the official website of Prostitution Information Center Amsterdam or have a look on the De Wallen at Wikipedia. Besides sex workers, the area also has a number of sex shops, sex theatres, live sex shows and etc. Many sex toys and porn movies are display at the windows of many sex shops over there.

Surprise? No, it is red light district. We saw one big condom shop in red light district too however we don’t enter the shop for a visit. We learned that is the biggest condom shop in town later, what a shame.
