Penalty for losing MyKad may cost 10 times more
BY MANJIT KAUR

KANGAR: Malaysians may have to pay a fine of RM100 - 10 times the present amount - for losing their MyKad if a proposal by the Home Affairs Ministry is implemented. Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad said if they lost their MyKad the second and third time, they would be fined RM200 and RM300 respectively under the proposal. He said the proposal would be submitted to the Cabinet this week.

“Some 1,000 MyKads are reported missing daily, and therefore, such a move is necessary.”……
……Businesswoman S. Josephine, 32, who is a snatch theft victim, echoed Nordin’s suggestion and said the Government should consider not making victims pay the RM100 fine.

This make me recall an incident happened in the year 2003.

On 31st December 2003, my girl friend and I took Putra LRT toward KLCC for New Year count down activities. However, something bad happened. My girl friend’s purse was stolen by pickpocket(s) on the LRT. We went to the nearest police station to lodge a police report. The policeman told us: “Sekarang you mau dapat buat MyKad baru sahaja, yang lain tidak mungkin dapat cari balik. Jadi, buat laporan kata you hilang you punya MyKad.” (You just want to have your MyKad replace, the rest were impossible to get them back. Therefore, just make a report said that you lost MyKad). We don’t want to lodge that kind of report. Then, the policeman told us if we made it as crime report then we need to go to other police station near to the Stadium Merdeka (Does he knew how far was it?)after that. He informed us there was no investigator officer in this police station, blah blah blah blah blah…… .At last, we have to compromise to accept that kind of police report.
Is that possible part of MyKads reported missing today just because of the crimes like what we have experienced before? The victim goes to police station and policeman tell you no investigator officer in that police station, blah blah blah blah blah……..until victim give up and make as lost MyKad police report? If the victim makes that kind of report, definitely he/she needs to pay the penalty to replace MyKad. However, he/she was the victim of a crime just like us!

We are care to our MyKad, but, please make sure “those people” do their job properly. So many crimes happen in Malaysia nowadays, if those victims have to lodge a police report like what we have to then please don’t complaint so many MyKad are reported missing. “Turun padang sebelum cadang sesuatu”
