Ministry, this is a discrimination against females
When I read this news, I really wonder Malaysian females don’t know how to take care themselves? Maybe some of them maybe need more attention however you should not come out this kind of proposal!
They are an adult, many of them are well educated, and success in their career. They are not a child! They should learn to be responsible to their act, themselves. Sooner or later, they may be mother of one or more also. If they can’t learn how to take care themselves how can they be parent?
I really don’t think they should get consent from their family first to go abroad. Inform their family about their trip, yes. But, get consent from family first, no.
Your intension maybe is good, but, it sound blaming Malaysian females are childish especially those go abroad. Don’t you think this is a bit bias at all? It just recalled me about the remarks by our former deputy internal security minister blaming that women like to carry expensive handbags and wear clothes that invite trouble (snatch thefts).
Ministry wants women going abroad alone to get family consent
KUALA KLAWANG: Local women intending to travel abroad alone may need family consent in a bid to prevent them from being used as “drug mules” by international syndicates. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said a proposal to this effect would be made soon to the Cabinet, following several incidents where women were used to smuggle drugs overseas.

Malaysian women’s groups called it unfair. Yes, it is unfair!

Rais Yatim has been in the cabinet for too long and he should retire and let other younger people to take over his post.
When he was the Culture and Heritage Minster, He blundered by closing down part of the National Muzium for renovation during the 2007 Visit Malaysia year.
Now, he make another blunder again by making the lone female travellers to obtain letters of consent from their parents or employers.
