PM wants theft curbed and the public kept safe

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi wants “things to be done” and the public kept safe, as he is concerned over the increasing number of violent snatch thefts.

We always like that, voice after tragedies. Can we pratice do something before tragedies, don’t always like this. Life is unvalued, especially to the victim’s family.

I refer to the news regarding the open forum held at Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College) to discuss the violent crimes against students. This forum was organized after 18 years old Accountancy student Lee Khian Yip was killed several days ago here and here . My condolence to Lee family.

Here is a petition after that incident, http://www.you-zi.net/AskForPeace

During the discussion, a student said when the victims go to the police station to make a police report; they are discouraged from doing so.

“They are told that the incident was a result of their own carelessness and that they shouldn’t trouble the police with ’small things’ like that.”

Refer to this, just read on my previous posted topic here. On that day, RM 1000 cash of one Malay guy was stolen by pickpocket(s) also on the LRT (don’t ask me why he carried so much cash with him). He went to same police station to lodge a police report. I think you know the answer. That policeman asked him lodge a police report which mentioned that he lost his money because of carelessness. He refused to lodge such kind of police report at first. Then, the policeman start to tell him 101 reasons why he should.

But, but, does it mean we should allow it just like this? This is not a new issue, it was here many years already!

Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Fu Ah Kiow said every police station has to accept any report made.

“If you encounter any police personnel who give you nonsensical answers, you can either inform me or the district police chief,” he added.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rodzi Ismail said anyone unhappy with services provided by police personnel could lodge a complaint with details of the alleged incident.

“Give us the date, the name of the person as well as his or her police ID number and we will take action.”

We want a society which we can go anywhere without worry our properties; a society which no one will come after you to get your money by force or take away your life or both. Is that sound too much?
