Friday the 13th? UPDATED

UPDATE:

From Eli’s blog

Nat Tan: Updates, questions and rant

Nat was informed by the police he has been arrested for investigation over a comment left* on one of his blog posts, which put the link pointing to a website which reported on the deputy minister for Internal Security, Johari Bahrum, being involved in fee-for-freedom. (Yep - the same minister exonerated by the ACA on Thursday.)

* Just curious, we are blogger not the server hosting company or server tracking expert. How can a blogger knows the origin of the comment in details with precisely (in this case, refer to the location of a house on a road in a housing area in a county of a country on this planet)? If yes, he/she not a blogger but hacker who is a serious threat to national security. By the way, don’t miss the questions in Eli’s blog post entry. You may want to read more at Polytikus too.

Malaysiakini had the latest news about this matter. Check it.

In this case he, Nathaniel Tan maybe can’t argue more about that. He was taken to Bukit Aman for questioning by 3 policemen this afternoon. Later on, his lawyer was told there were no records of Tan being brought to Bukit Aman. Finally, police confirmed that he was indeed being held at Bukit Aman. It is really like watching a drama.

Mob’s crib was right about his comment in The Sensintrovert blog post entry. Why the police needs to “hide” the true but confirmed it more than six hours later? Ya, why? Why need to make such a big round turn?

Now, Nathaniel Tan will be held for 24 hours to facilite investigation under the Official Secrets Act (OSA). Okay, it is OSA now. By the way, he is a blogger too.

Friday the 13th jinx?

‘I Dunno’ mentality prevailed, even when it’s being done by ‘Rakan Sekerja’. I’m sure they are some real cops out there who went the extra mile to help trace him. Besides NAT’s detention, we should be concern about MCMC’s role in abetting this ‘abduction’. Are they acting on behalf of CERTAIN POLITICAL PARTY?

KJ: You are right. We have public hearing (not really public, because press are not welcome) about crimes hike in process, at the same time we have this too.

bloggers should not be held responsible for comments left on their blogs. in the malaysian context this is a right that will need to be fought for. in the US bloggers are protected by Section 230

as for tracking visitors, i pay for the full version of sitemeter and can see when and where each visitor comes from and what pages they are looking at and their IP number. this is very useful if you have a troll or spammer or stalker (i’ve had all three). i have used the IP number in the past to make complaints to the service provider (telekom) and they did follow up.

KJ: bibliobibuli, you are right. About tracking visitors, no many bloggers able to pay the full version of tracking software (for example: sitemeter) what a shame. In Tan’s case, I believe the police do want more maybe like what I had mentioned in my post entry, just my thought. I just wonder like why can’t police summon Tan or pay him several visits in his office if they need his help on investigation just like what Eli had said? Why need to make the story became such dramatic and put him under arrest without any warrant? Well, maybe police can tell.
