Dog catching competition?
UPDATED
Selayang dog-catching competition scrapped
SELAYANG: The controversial dog catching competition by Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) in Selangor which offered prize money up to RM15,000 to the public has been called off.
However, you may want to know how gentleman the Selayang Municipal Council is when they had talk with several NGOs regarding the competition, read here for the story.

UPDATED: Why I say sound a bit too much? (I will translate it to English later, I’m busy with 32p for these few weeks)
Translated with Google Translate’s help
They want to solve the problem of stray dogs in this manner . However, how many ugly sides of human nature will be floating with the lure of money?
Dogs which have owners may also treat as stray dogs under the lure of the money, the method is simple, just removed the dog’s license tag from the dogs. So, it becomes as a stray dog.
Just afraid something may goes too far like dog with owner may treat as stray dog when it slip out from it’s owner house.
Have they ever think about these problems seriously?

Does it sound a bit too much?
BARBARIC DOG CATCHING COMPETITION
I read with horror an advertisement on the Selayang Municipal Council’s website in Malaysia. See http://www.mps.gov.my/default01.htm. This advertisement was for a Dog Catching Competition where lucrative prize money was being offered to individuals who could catch the most dogs!
How could the council even come up with such an idea? Which half sane or decent human being managed to come up with such a cruel and ridiculous idea? The competition would only encourage more cruelty towards these helpless animals. (Bear in mind that these stray dogs that are on the streets are due to our own negligence).
The website is in Malay, you can read the translation version in BARBARIC DOG CATCHING COMPETITION. Don’t listen to me, you read and you judge.

I don’t see what is wrong with this?? And there is no big deal about this
KJ: I wish you can spend a little of your time go to read the post entry and comments there.

Hi,
Thanks for putting this up. Really appreciate it. Unfortunately alot of people in this country do not realise that this competition only encourages cruelty to the dogs, as the public will not know how to catch dogs, and will most likely end up seriously injuring the dogs.
Also it will encourage people who are desperate to make some money to resort to stealing dogs that are not strays!
Natasha
KJ: You are right. I can’t argue more with one comment in your post entry and that is what I worries most.

I did read your suggested post entry and comments, and find it nothing wrong.. after all, it is just dog catching, who’s cares? I would offer money to those who catch cat if I am there now.
Why Malaysia need to worry about this? They should worry about more serious problem like human trafficking and prostitution.. (Catching a human is more serious than a dog.. what’s wrong with you people out there?)

There is an Online Petition calling upon the Selayang Municipal Council to stop this barbaric campaign. I would greatly appreciate it if everyone could take the time to sign it. Please see my blog for details of the petition and also the latest updates on this issue.
Also, please note that this competition would only encourage abuse and cruelty towards all animals. Please remember that at the end of the day, as humans (so called masters of the planet) it is our duty to look after all of the Earth’s creatures. I believe that this is the teaching in all religions, be it Christianity or Islam or Buddhism or whatever. Therefore by actively allowing such barbaric acts, we will definitely be condemned to hell.
While I do agree that there are other issues to look at, I don’t think that this issue is any less important…
And Nabim, you are right catching humans is MORE important, so why waste resources and so much money on catching dogs… why not have a Catch Rapists, Thieves and Murderers Competition?
KJ: Natasha Fernz, noted. Thanks.

I don’t hate animal, in fact, I like dog.. in fact, I have two at home.. and yes, they stay in door and have their own “dog” house inside our house.
I am just tired of Malaysian who resides in Malaysia, caring those little little things and speak loud, make small small thing become big big trouble.. dog catching, negarakuku, who cares about these?? Let them do whatever they want, as long as it is not hurting anyone else.. let’s fight for crime in JB, prostitution in Petaling Street (or make prostitution legal in certain areas), fight the toll increase, fight the loan shark, fight the government to make the education to emphasis the [delete] moral system, teach our children to become a responsible person, good moral,..
If I am a tax payer there, I won’t let my money to fight those little thing, let’s get real and get serious about it.

In which part did the post and comments said that people don’t care about crime, human rights and other issues? If we step back an inch over “little” things, they will step a foot forward next time with “bigger” things. Sikit-sikit lama jadi bukit! If we let unethical habits grow… we will be damned. And furthermore, they are spending like RM39,000 as freaking prize money? They could have just give then money to shelters for abused children or wifes, other hardwork to curb crime and all…

Hi all,
Let me take my word back, It is not right for this dog catching activities. What I meant, it is not worth to make it a big deal. just Stupid is as stupid does…
For the prostitution, as long as the working ladies do their regular check up. That’s fine, and it should be in a designated red-light district areas
For the gangster crime in JB/KL, death sentence to the bag snatchers. Make it a headline.
For the loan sharking, nothing wrong with them, tax them hard on their interest gained. It is a business, you borrow, you need to pay back. There is no free lunch in this world. Be real.
For the education, no comment - emphasis more in moral civic. and [delete] the religious study (islam, christian)

I think I should complaint to the government that people should not eat pig. I am a pig lover.. I have not have a good sleep after every dinner.. Pig is so cute, and the whole Malaysian society is so cruel and kill the pig and eat them..
By the way, my wife is also a chicken lover. Please do not kill chicken anymore..
KJ, What is a proper way for me to file the complaint??
KJ: Write your letter regarding your complaint to the authorities.

Nabim … I don’t know if you’re Malay, Chinese or Indian … but I am sure you know that dog has always been regarded as a pet … not a food. Where as pigs and chickens .… for many centuries have always been regarded as food. Yeah, I must admit, people do consume dogs … therefore, dogs in other words … are some EXOTIC food for those with an exotic taste for food. But come on, I think you’re pretty much out of topic here … we’re talking about cruelty on dog CATCHING … or did I get the whole picture wrong?
