Second Angkasawan?

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

After the first so-called Angkasawan returned safely to earth, we have this in newspaper

Second Angkasawan can go up in 2010-2011

MOSCOW: The Russian Federal Space Agency has made an open offer to Malaysia to send a second Angkasawan to the International Space Station in late 2010 or 2011.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Malaysia had until 2009 to confirm its undertaking of a second space mission. He noted that the decision to send another Malaysian to space depended on the benefits such an endeavour would provide and the costs involved, as the next one would have to be funded by the Government.

Should we consider seriously what he had mentioned in the newspaper?

Second bid ‘may eat into funds’

JOHOR BARU: The plan to send a second Angkasawan to space should be carefully considered as it may eat into development funds.

Public Accounts Committee chairman Datuk Shahrir Samad said that while he was “not totally against” the plan, all the pros and cons had to be contemplated.

“Of course this project will help broaden our thinking and encourage the study of science and technology.

“However, as a developing country, we have many competing considerations and developmental projects,” he said, adding that the effect such an expensive project would have on the national expenditure also had to be considered.

He is right. Too much praise is a burden. (more…)

Angkasawan or Spaceflight Participant ?

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

The first Malaysian in space became real on 10th Oct 2007; however, I do not feel excited. Honestly, I would prefer that money spend on basic needs for the sake of Malaysians not just to show BOLEH only. We have so many things need to be fixed in our country and society, make the foundation strong first then only we consider about ‘flying’. (more…)

Survey: Most Malaysians do not take Angkasawan Programme seriously, says official

KUALA LUMPUR: Most Malaysians do not take the National Angkasawan Programme seriously, and programme director Col Dr Zulkeffeli Mat Jusoh is not happy with this.

“A recent survey revealed that they still think it’s a waste of time and money, and that we’re just going to undertake a ‘little’ science project once our angkasawan (astronaut) is sent into space.

“Worse, many are still under the assumption that we are going to play gasing (top) or make teh tarik (tea) in space. *

* I’m sorry, Director. You really can’t blamed us. Please take a moment have a look on the news reported on last year after the programme was announced. Read it by yourself, what were highlighted in that news. Do you think there was no misconception in the news also?

I still remember, my teachers taught me when write a news, interesting or important points must in first few paragraphs; however, when write an essay, it was the other way round. Either my teachers were wrong or the news in this case.
