RM6.1 Billion Space Science University Planned In Kota Tinggi

JOHOR BAHARU, April 27 (Bernama) — A local company and its overseas partner plan to set up Space Science University of Malaysia (UniSam) costing RM6.1 billion on 2,500-acre site in Kota Tinggi.

Next Systems Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Noor Faizal Abdul Samad said the university would be equipped with modern and international-standard space science laboratories and recruit renowned experts.

“If the proposal is accepted, Malaysia will emerge as the third country in the world to have a space science university after Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida, United States, and International Space University in Strasbourg, France,” he told Bernama recently.

IF we produce such graduates from that University, will they secure for job? We have so many examples as our mirror (the recent one), that mirror is not enough for us to learn a lesson? (more…)

Faiz: Continue space programme

KUALA LUMPUR: The Angkasawan programme should continue, with the funding shared among the relevant ministries that will benefit from the aerospace industry, suggested Mejar Dr Faiz Khaleed. The second Angkasawan said the space mission should no longer be about sending a Malaysian to space but for Malaysia to embark on the aerospace industry.

I read his words in newspaper. He said “developing research and development means investment”. It is true, R&D is an investment. But, in this case, I would rather prefer down-to-earth R&D.

Recently, we heard from our PM many projects are in reviewing, for example (more…)

Malaysia To Decide On 2nd Astronaut Programme Before Year End

KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 (Bernama) — Malaysia will give an answer to Russia by year end whether to send another astronaut to the International Space Station (ISS), said National Astronaut Programme Director Kol Dr Zulkeffeli Mat Yusof.

He said Malaysia was lucky as Russia had given its assurance to take one more Malaysian astronaut in 2011 or 2012.*

“The opportunity for an astronaut to go to ISS is very limited and precious. So, we must give our answer soon in order to proceed with the programme,” he told Bernama Tuesday.

[......]

If I may, please say NO to second astronaut programme. * NO, this is not! This is not we are lucky because Russia had assured us a place to space. They just want our money. That money deserves for better usages!

Be down-to-earth for science

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Learned from Nerdy Science Blog that Malaysia cabinet still busying to discuss budget for sending second so-called Malaysian Astronaut into space in 2011. I just wonder why can’t they be down-to-earth for science in Malaysia. We no need fancy projects to stimulate interest of people for science.

I would prefer that money be channelled to right researchers for meaningful and useful scientific researches for example Bioenergy. Beware, channelled the money transparently without corruption to right place, right policies, and right person not someone you are in favour although he/she may knows nothing about science!

Europe and US are paying a lot of attention on bioenergy researches. The fossil fuels we are using now are going to be finished. Malaysia is going to be 100% fuel importer country after 2011. (more…)

Malaysia offered to buy Russia spaceship

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) — Russia has offered to sell to Malaysia the spaceship Soyuz TMA-11 in which Malaysian first astronaut Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor flew to the International Space Station (ISS) recently.

The offer “is a good idea” but the government had not made any decision on the matter, Malaysian Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Jamaludin Jarjis said at the gathering of Barisan Nasional Back Benchers Club (BNBBC) with the National Astronaut here on Monday

“I received the offer while waiting for Sheikh Muszaphar’s return in Russia. We are discussing the matter and if the price isright we can bring it back to Malaysia.

“Furthermore, Sheikh Muszaphar flew in it which is a historical event,” Malaysian national news agency Bernama quoted the minister as saying.

He added that he would submit the matter to the cabinet.

Public support on the purchase was also necessary, he said.

The Soyuz TMA-11 carried Sheikh Muszaphar and two other astronauts, Flight Engineer Yuri Malenchenko from Russia and Commander Peggy Whitson from the United States to the ISS on Oct. 10.

Don’t do this for the sake of people. Please understand this, A man can do no more than he can.

Soyuz Offer Great News, Says Dr Sheikh Muszaphar

SEPANG, Nov 5 (Bernama) — Malaysia’s first astronaut Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Sheikh Mustapha has described the offer by Russia to sell to Malaysia the Soyuz TMA-11 spacecraft in which he went to the International Space Station (ISS) as great news.

Met by reporters at the KL International Airport here tonight, he said that if the purchase was successful, all Malaysians will get to see an actual spacecraft “with their own eyes”.*

“They will also have a better idea about my trip into space while Malaysian scientists and others can get invaluable information from studying it,” he said.

Dr Sheikh Muszaphar and Malaysia’s second astronaut Mejar Dr Faiz Khaleed left for Moscow, Russia together with their respective families at 11.45pm.

The duo will spend three weeks at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in Star City, Moscow, which will culminate in their recognition as full-fledged cosmonauts in a traditional ceremony to be arranged by Roscosmos, Russia’s space agency.

What for? IF, IF spend million/billion Ringgit Malaysia just for this purpose, it is indeed a waste! Don’t do this for the sake of people.
