Perak Religious Dept drops case against nightclub singer

IPOH: The Perak Religious Department has dropped the case against singer Siti Noor Idayu Abd Moin for allegedly dressing sexily and encouraging vice by performing at a nightclub.

The 22-year-old singer said the department reached the decision after a meeting on Saturday.

“At the meeting, (the Perak Religious Department) decided to drop the charge as it it did not have enough evidence to press charges,” said Siti Noor Idayu.

During the meeting, she said, the department officers also advised her to dress properly in future performances.

However, the performer said she would continue to dress the way she always had.

“I don’t think the clothes that I wear are revealing or sexy. It’s not like I was wearing a two-piece (bikini). I still know what I can and cannot do,” she said. *

Discard bias against women

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Say this LOUD and CLEAR to them, we understand better than them.

Role of women and youth vital

KUALA LUMPUR: The Muslim world must discard bias against women and youth who have not been given the opportunity to contribute to society, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

He added Muslims must acknowledge that women and youth have the greatest potential to contribute constructively to the advancement of the Muslim world.

Unfortunately, said the Deputy Prime Minister, some societies in the Muslim world give scant attention to women and youth, (which is) a worrying trend that has already proved detrimental to the development of Muslim societies all over the world.

“We witness a serious lack of representation of women in certain Muslim societies, giving rise to gender marginalisation.

Dress Code Proposal To Check Sexual Harassment

PENANG, May 22 (Bernama) — Two state assemblymen Tuesday proposed a dress code for women aimed at checking sexual harassment and violent sexual acts against women.

Shabudin Yahaya (BN-Permatang Berangan) said the way women dressed up was among factors that led to sexual harassment and violent sexual acts being committed. *1

“The women’s dressing nowadays can entice men to harass and do things to them,” he said when debating the motion of thanks in the state assembly Monday.

Datuk Jasmin Mohamed (BN-Sungai Dua) said women’s pursuit of position prompted many of them to put aside their responsibility to the family and was one of the reasons for the violent sexual acts. *2

*1 ~ Sexual harassment happens because of women dressing? Again, we have someone blaming others for some people’s evil acts.

“The women’s dressing nowadays can entice men to harass and do things to them,”

What do you think? May I ask?
