In the morning, this news in Malaysiakini woke me up completely.

Jul 3, 08 1:00pm
breaking news Abdul Razak Baginda’s private investigator signed a statutory declaration that he had been told by the accused about Najib’s alleged involvement with Altantuya.

What is that all about? What we have been told actually since the case started until now? Who is not tell the truth?

I really shocked when I read this news in Malaysiakini this evening. I really wonder is that true? RPK made a statutory declaration, this is a legal document made under (more…)

Shame !!! We are a joker in front of the World !!!

In her statutory declaration, GN Jayanthi, 45, said she had stayed until 3am in Lingam’s office to draft a judgment which eventually became the landmark decision read by High Court judge Mokhtar Sidin in the Vincent Tan vs MGG Pillai defamation suit. This, she said, occurred between November and early December 1994.

Meanwhile, Jayanthi also revealed that the Anti-Corruption Agency had informed her in 1998 that the corruption investigation concerning Lingam was closed because ‘too many high profile officials were involved’.

She was also given RM3,000 by ACA which she accepted. She, however, could not tell the court why the money was given to her.

He worries about his safety

What ACA doing there? Acting like a secret police force in Malaysia? Maybe I’m wrong, but, it really sounds like secret police to me not anti Corruption.

Last month, the ACA ‘harassment’ and threatening phone calls became so unbearable and that Loh said he lodged at least one police report.

“The intrusion into my private life was bad,” he told Malaysiakini when met at his lawyer’s plush apartment in the heart of the city.

“They hunted me day and night. They came in cars, waited for me with engines running, waiting until midnight. The security guards at my apartment can vouch for this,” he said.

“Once the ACA visited my house and my office at the same time. When they found that I wasn’t there, they harassed my youngest son and threatened to take him away,” he said.

Loh said that once while he was travelling by car to Singapore, he was intercepted in Malacca by two ACA officers.

“They wanted me to immediately return with them to their headquarters in Putrajaya to take a statement from me. I told them I will not follow them and got them to let me talk to their superior,” he said.

“I told them I can cooperate but it must be properly done, and that I am given proper notice,” he added.

According to Loh, he did not know how the ACA knew that he was involved in the matter.

“Maybe Lingam had told them that I and my son were at his house on that day,” he speculated.

First headline in 2008

UPDATED

Chua quits party, gov’t posts

Embattled MCA vice-president and Health Minister Dr Chua Soi Lek has resigned from all his posts both in the party and the government with immediate effect.

——————————————————

The first headline I read on 1st January 2008 were these:

I am the one in the sex DVD, says Chua

蔡细历承认是性爱光碟主角

Chua: I’m the one in sex video

What surprised me was he admitted he is the politician in the sex DVD circulating in Johor and made the confession at a press conference. Have you seen this before? Malaysian politician(s) admit their mistake(s) in front of public at a press conference?

Don’t misunderstand me, what he did was wrong.

However, is up to his family members to decide his faith, his boss(es) to decide his current career, and voters decide he is qualified to be their representative in august house. (more…)

Chief Justice

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

I learned this from Rocky’s Bru yesterday.

Zaki for CJ?

Top contender. I’ve been told that Zaki Azmi, the Umno lawyer who was controversially made Federal Court early last month, is Choice No 1 for the Chief of Justice post.

If that happens, the crisis faced by the Judiciary is expected to deepen. Zaki’s ascension to the Federal Court defied convention as no one had ever been promoted to the Federal Court without first serving the High Court and the Appeal Court [Umno lawyer promoted to Federal Court, Sept 5].

Then, I read this in Sin Chew daily (Chinese daily) this morning

聯邦法院首席大法官人選 查基料受推薦
update:2007-11-01 09:00:27 MYT

Do you feel worries IF that happens? Yes, I’m. (more…)

Ready to boycott judiciary

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Will it becomes real? Does our current administration really listen to the truth? OR they are entirely perfect?

Be ready to boycott judiciary, lawyers told

[......]

Lawyer Haris Ibrahim then told the audience that something drastic would have to be done if the upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Malaysian Bar president S Ambiga bears no fruit.

“I think, at its extraordinary general meeting on Nov 22, the Bar must be prepared to take the necessary resolutions to put a stop to this nonsense.

“I’m suggesting that there’s no other way to drive the point home that, until the judiciary is clean, we will not take part in a system that has become so tainted (because) we (would be tarred) by the same brush,” he said firmly.

He cited the example of Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who was suspended by president Gen Pervez Musharraf on March 9.

This led to lawyers boycotting the courts, confronting riot police officers, burning pictures of Musharraf and holding nationwide protests. It resulted in the reinstatement of Chaudhry on July 20.

“They brought the administration of justice to a standstill. The judiciary cannot function without the legal profession, said Haris.

“I can’t see anything else than some drastic action by lawyers to say No, we’ve had enough, we will not take part in it; clean up the system and give us the royal commission or else.”

“If not, I don’t see any way else that can help us get out of this quagmire that we find ourselves in now.”

There was a roar of support and loud applause from the audience.
