Monday, July 2nd, 2007

We have durian season, manggis season, we have to add one now “haze season”.

171 hotspots in Sumatra

PETALING JAYA: The number of hotspots in Sumatra has almost doubled within 24 hours, signalling the onset of the forest-burning season in Indonesia which inevitably shrouds Malaysia in a haze.

According to Meteorological Services Department environmental studies director Lim Sze Fook, satellite images showed 171 hotspots in Sumatra as at 2.58pm yesterday compared to 91 at 3.05pm on Saturday.

In October 2006, many ASEAN countries suffered for haze problem, Malaysia was one of them too.

During that moment, the response of a top official, First secretary (political affairs), Mudzakir at the Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur was very arrogant when he received a memorandum from opposition party.

Yet, Our Prime Minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi told us “When something like this happens, we have to ask for God’s help,”.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid said that Malaysia and Indonesia are friendly neighbour. Malaysia will not bring the haze matter to the International Tribunal. He said Malaysia and Indonesia will continue to hold TALKS and discussions aimed at smoke and haze.

So, what now?

hazzy days

source:theStar

Singapore raises the haze issue at the United Nations General Assembly last month. However, Indonesia does not happy about Singapore’s move.

When Indonesia burns their forest, Malaysians have to “breath” the hazzy air. This problem already appears for more than a decade. However, does Indonesia really take it seriously to solve the problem? How about our government react to this problem?

Let us have some review here

You burn, I Tarik Kuat Kuat

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

malaysia-tuly-hazierAfter we have heard the response of a top official, First secretary (political affairs), Mudzakir at the Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

“If you can guarantee the wind will not blow (in this direction), then I can guarantee it (haze) will not happen again.”

“When we export oxygen, you don’t say anything; when we export haze, you complain.”

“We have forests producing oxygen and bringing clean air to them but they don’t thank us. Now there’s smoke and they complain. There must be a balance.”

We have our minister now.

This was the response of a top official, First secretary (political affairs), who goes by the single name Mudzakir at the Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur after receiving a memorandum today from opposition party DAP. He received the two-page document on behalf of the Ambassador KPH Rusdihardjo and his deputy Abdul Rahman Muhamad Fachir. They were not at the embassy. (source: Malaysiakini)

How many years already we have this kinds of problem? For what I can recall, in the year 1997 we have to wear mask when we were outside. Almost a decade, Malaysia or ASEAN can’t even get something done? How much we effort to lost? Airport has to shut down because the visibility is too low; people have to reduce outdoor activities; daily activities reduce to minimum level; people getting sick etc. I’m not very good in economic, however, does this effect our economy?

I’m confused. When someone touches about 30% policy, someone will react faster than thunder. When someone touches about the priority policy, someone will jumping up and down faster than thunder. The haze “visit” Malaysia every year, someone will say “we will discuss with Indonesia” A decade discussion, never ending discussion. Perhaps when open burning is from Singapore then we will get response faster from someone???
