Free and fair election?

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Another great work by Y4C

He insists that the elections are free and fair. You tell him by using your ballot.

Malaysia’s deputy prime minister has hit out at critics who say the country is not truly democratic, ahead of Saturday’s general election. Najib Razak’s opponents point out that the National Front coalition and its forerunner have won all general elections since British rule ended. But he insists elections are free and fair and that democratic systems do not require regular changes of government.

Return power to PEOPLE 02

deny 50% vote for BN
picture adapted from mob1900

Friend of mine sharing this article with me this morning. Thanks to him. I wish to share it to all of you also, if I may.

A single party/coalition forms the ruling party when they get the majority. Safe to say, that would be 51% if the oppositions band together.

2/3 majority is necessary only to change the constitution. If it is the same ruling party is the majority, I think they can run the country and still make policies without needing to change the constitution further.

In the period opposition parties have up 49% but the 51% ruling party still runs the government, the public will view the opposition ineffective and will be labelled as just a stopper to progress.

So if anyone thinks they can correct the system of governance, return power to the people and restructure the judiciary just by denying the ruling party 2/3 majority, please think again.

If opposition just achieves denying the incumbent ruling party 2/3 majority, then it’s just a move to freeze a constitution that’s already owned and designed by the ruling party.

If the opposition cannot reach their own 2/3 majority, they cannot make fundamental changes as planned. However, just 51% majority may be effective enough to run the nation as the current ruling party is doing because the current setup is already skewed to the executive (PM and portfolio MPs).

If the opposition cannot unite and take 51% themselves they have lost the chance to prove themselves to the public in terms of administration but hopefully the ruling party would awaken and realise how many people want to seriously restructure the system and perhaps start to work hand-in-hand to make those changes.

We need strong opposition to monitor the ruling party (which form Government). It is time to return the power to people. We MUST have this concept in mind and tell every MP, we can vote them in house, we can also vote them out. (more…)

Back and fill

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

What is your reputation, EC? What kind of security and public order you are worry about? Light us how it can be, not simply give us a sentence only.

EC cancels use of indelible ink

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission has cancelled the use of indelible ink in polling this Saturday, citing public order and security reasons.

Its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said following a meeting held Tuesday, the EC was obliged to make a firm and final decision to ensure the smooth conduct of the 12th general election.

He said provisions to the law needed if the ink was to be used still could not affect the constitutional right of a voter to cast his vote, even a person whose fingernail had been marked with indelible ink or one who refuses to have his or her fingernail marked this way.

How can you convince us the Election is clean but you back and fill on your words. (more…)

Do you believe his story?

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

First of all, allow me :insult: :insult: :insult: Ok, ok, ok….sorry, I’m sorry. I read this news through my feed reader. May I ask, do you believe his “story”? You no need to tell me here, tell him by using your ballot.

Khairy to sue Gobind over allegation

SEREMBAN: Khairy Jamaluddin will sue Gobind Singh Deo after the general election because the Puchong DAP parliamentary candidate has alleged that the Umno Youth deputy chief had insulted the Indian community.

Khairy, who is the Rembau Barisan Nasional parliamentary seat candidate, said he could not allow such an irresponsible statement by Gobind Singh to spread because it was very serious and a case of personal attack, which had gone overboard.

“If you attack me personally on other things, it is okay. But when they attack me by saying I have insulted the other races or the Indians, I have to take legal action,” he told reporters yesterday after a meet-the-people session in Rantau. [1]

About 1,000 people – mostly Indians – turned up for the session. Also present was Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

It had been reported in the press on Saturday that Gobind Singh had allegedly said Khairy had threatened the Hindu Action Rights Force (Hindraf) before.

He had said it during a ceramah for Lembah Pantai Parti Keadilan Rakyat parliamentary seat candidate Nurul Izzah Anwar in Brickfields.

Khairy added that the opposition had misinterpreted his speech during the Umno General Assembly last year and they were distributing VCDs of it.

“What I touched on in the assembly was Bersih, not the gathering of the Indian community. They give the wrong impression as if I have insulted the Indians, this is a huge lie,” he said.

He added that the Indians had already voiced their support for his candidacy and the question of Indians being insulted had not arisen.

“I told them I will be a wakil rakyat for all the races, Malays, Indians and Chinese. We need to develop Malaysia together,” he said. [2]

It is so true!

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

These video clips (by Youth for Change) were circulated through blogs, emails since uploaded on YouTube. I like these two very much, especially the “Change your life style (Ubah gaya hidup)”. Who should change the life style? The government, politicians from ruling parties. They should change their life style. Do you have abalone, shark fins as your daily meal?

About the blogs. Government’s move is mutually conflicting. They encourage people learn and master the IT knowledge or keep up to date to the technology. On the other hand, they “prohibited” people access to blogs on internet. Many companies try to have their own blog in their web site nowadays. It just like decades ago computer was not a must for daily usage but it is a useful and powerful tool nowadays. They are still using 555 notebook instead of SQL database? Maybe they are.
