Chinese schools in Penang get RM3.8mil

PENANG: It was early festive cheer for the Chinese community here as MCA and Gerakan leaders presented government aid worth RM3.8mil to 15 Chinese schools in the state.

MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting visited SRJC Kong Min (Second Branch), SRJC Chiao Nan, SMJK Chung Ling, Chung Ling (Private) High School and SMJK Chung Hwa Confucian yesterday where he presented a total of RM650,000.

华校领大红包 槟17校获拨400万

（槟城1日讯）继增建华小的好消息后，马华与民政再次捎来喜讯，即成功为槟州5所独中、10所国民型中学和2所国民型小学争取到400万令吉特别拨款。

5所独中和9所国民型中学（不包括菩提中学），分别获得15万令吉中央特别拨款和5万令吉州政府拨款。单单中央拨款方面，菩提国民型中学获得100万令吉，至于公民二校和侨南小学，各得10万令吉。

马华总会长拿督斯里黄家定部长是于周五上午亲自移交高达130万令吉模拟支票予7所华文中小学，包括菩提中学、槟城钟灵国中、槟城钟灵独中、北海钟灵国中、中华中学、公民二校和侨南小学。

另9校亦获拨款

除了上述受惠的学校，马华民政也分别为槟华女中、协和女中、圣心中学、修道院女中、恒毅中学，以及槟华独中、菩提独中、韩江中学、日新独中争取20万令吉拨款，分别是15万令吉中央拨款，以及5万令吉州政府拨款。

Boost for Chinese education with new and relocated schools

SHAH ALAM: The new and relocated Chinese primary schools in Selangor will be in Sungai Long, Kajang, Bukit Serdang and Rawang, state MCA chairman Datuk Ch’ng Toh Eng said.

“It will be a boost for Chinese education and the best Chinese New Year gift for the Chinese community in the Year of the Rat,” he said.

He said this in response to the announcement made by Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein on Thursday on the approval of six new and relocated Chinese schools.

萬撓新華小地點敲定‧鄧詩漢：料今年動工

（雪蘭莪‧萬撓）萬撓愛美樂（Emerald Rawang）發展商週五（2月1日）正式宣佈捐出市值1500萬令吉的6英畝永久地契土地，作為萬撓新華小的校地。

該發展商還另外捐出300萬令吉的建築費，足以完成校舍大樓的基本硬體建設。

馬華萬撓州議員拿督鄧詩漢聯同豐美機構董事顏華藝召開新聞發佈會說，新華小將座落在萬撓愛美樂第2區的大路邊，另一邊就是菁鄉嶺，並有望在今年內動工。

Hisham’s role in Chinese schools praised

EDUCATION Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has done more to promote Chinese education than his predecessors, Sin Chew Daily reported.

He has given the green light for the building of six new Chinese primary schools.

He also approved 24 Chinese primary schools to be relocated to densely populated areas.

The daily also reported that none of Hishammuddin’s predecessors had given out land for the construction of new Chinese primary schools.

Hishammuddin had given out four plots of land for new Chinese schools, the daily said.

首相：致力滅貪搞好治安‧打造隆為安寧繁榮城市

（吉隆坡）首相拿督斯里阿都拉指出，政府將採取步驟整頓聯邦直轄區尤其是吉隆坡的治安，以及消除這些地區的貧窮問題。

他說，政府的目標是要把聯邦直轄區特別是吉隆坡打造成為人民可以安居樂業、清潔、和平及進步與繁榮的地區。

阿都拉週五（2月1日）晚上為聯邦直轄區日慶典主持推介儀式時說，此舉也有助於吸引更多游客。

他說，他已指示警方把聯邦直轄區尤其是吉隆坡列為打擊罪案的首要地區。

此外，阿都拉表示，政府並非如一般人所說的只是極力於消除鄉區貧窮，當局也積極消除城市貧窮。

他指出，政府已定下目標，要在2010年消除聯邦直轄區的赤貧。

他促請聯邦直轄區的人民致力協助政府達到有關目標，以使聯邦直轄區成為我國的光榮。

PM: Public apathy linked to crime rise

BUTTERWORTH: Public apathy is one of the reasons for the escalating crime rate, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

He said he was aware of public complaints and concerns on this matter.

“I am listening and the police too are hearing your concerns. The police are doing their best to arrest the problem.

“But the public should not blame the police and leave everything to them. You must also help the police.

Indians promised jobs in Government

BUTTERWORTH: Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop has promised to get Indian youths jobs in the Government if their applications are rejected without reason.

“I will help you get the jobs,” he told a dialogue with eight Indian-based non-governmental organisations (NGOs) here.

He said Indian youths could voice their grouses to him and he would ensure that they would not be overlooked when vacancies are filled.

“If there are vacancies at any department, and if they feel they are qualified and have been rejected without valid reasons, I will help them get the jobs.

“We want to ensure youths of all races are given equal opportunities to work in the government sector,” he said.

He said the departments and agencies included the Penang Port Commission and district offices.

More Chinese primary schools

IPOH: More Chinese primary schools will be built in highly-populated areas, said Deputy Education Minister Datuk Hon Choon Kim.

Speaking to reporters after visiting SJK (C) Sam Chai here, Hon, however, declined to reveal the number that would be built or where they would be located.

“Although I know the details, it should not come from my mouth.

“Wait a little while longer. The good news will be announced soon,” Hon said.
