Malaysian culture

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Bloggers, you have another identity now in Malaysia. :celebrate:

“Nowadays, not only the bloggers are having a mental block (disturbed) but the PAS’ spiritual leader’s mind too is blocked (unstable) when he equated Umno members to orang utan.

Simply labelling people with bad phrase is Malaysian culture too? It that a good manner also? I’m not wise enough to understand the concept behind.

Bloggers in Malaysia were labelled as liar, monkey, goblok, karaoke singer, pondan and now, disturbed people.

What Malaysian culture is actually? When things or voices are not in favour of current administration, they will stress “that is not Malaysian culture” in media. What Malaysian culture is? (more…)

11 websites blocked so far

ELEVEN websites have so far been blocked for having obscene materials and seditious messages, Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Dr Mohd Ruddin Abdul Ghani said.

Besides blocking the websites and blogs, he said the ministry has also drawn up long-term programmes in collaboration with CyberSecurity Malaysia to boost awareness on cyber security among computer buffs.

To begin with, the www.esecurity.org.my website was launched recently, he told the Dewan Negara.

Dr Mohd Ruddin said it was not difficult to block websites and blogs compared with emails featuring advertisements and pornography.

He said there was no proper mechanism to check such material spreading through e-mails, but the authorities could control and halt blogs.

“However, the Cabinet will not obstruct the movement of information in the Internet because of the Bill of Guarantee, which promised free-flow of information when the Multimedia Super Corridor was first set up,” he said.

Zainuddin Likens Some Bloggers To Karaoke Singers

SUNGAI PETANI, Aug 24 (Bernama) — Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin today likened bloggers to karaoke singers who take pleasure in their own singing but have no influence although they claimed to have received millions of hits.

He said some people might enjoy their “singing”, especially those who shared their views, but many rejected them because they sang “out of tune” and their views were unacceptable to the majority of the people.

However, his former BOSS had different opinion about Bloggers (view the video clip at Malaysiakini.tv)

Dr M: There are bloggers and there are blockheads 24 August 2007

During the session with bloggers and writers organized by NGO Majlis Prihatin Malaysia on August 15, ex-premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad mentioned numerous times that bloggers play an important role in exposing government wrong-doings.

He kept on saying that Bloggers are not post a threat or influence a lot but SIOK sendiri, why he voice so much or worries so much? (more…)

‘Blog Writers Are Actually Coward’ - Muhammad

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) — Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Mohammad Taib has described writers of political blogs, whom he says looked brave in criticising government leaders, as cowards.

“Why I say they are coward? Because they are afraid of using (web) addresses in the country but use overseas addresses to slam our country leaders. Is this the character of a man? This is not a man, this is a ‘pondan’.

Even bloggers are hosting their site at overseas, they still come after his/her and family members who have nothing related with. Several recent cases already impressed us very much. Who is not a man actually?

Regarding the local addresses or overseas addresses, Ximplicity advised Mr. M.M.Taib brush up his knowledge regarding what internet is or what difference between local/overseas addresses and URL/URI is. What do you think?

“How dare they say no one can touch them, no one can drag them to court because no laws can be used to take action on them,” he told reporters after a meeting of Umno’s information chiefs from the divisions nationwide.

Why use the word “they”? I’m not good in English, please forgive me. Maybe my English is not good enough, never mind several bloggers can tell you more about this too. Have a look too, will you? (more…)
