After price of fuel hiked

Government said continuous subsidy in petrol will make our nation facing financial problems. Not only petrol, government also giving subsidy to many daily goods. Main problem here is people misused this benefit. People smuggle those subsidized to other country to make profit from them.

Well, regarding this I read a letter ( I forgot the date and the title too) in Malaysiakini before, the author suggested instead of subsidize those daily goods why don’t learn from Europe? It is indeed a good suggestion. Remove those subsidies or reduce it to low level step by step (we already get use to that subsidy system) and give this money directly to people. By doing so, price of daily goods will floats according to the market and there is no way to gain profit by smuggling them to other country.

There are many countries in Europe we can learn for, for example Northern Europe. Learn how they take care their society in terms of social benefits like health care insurance. IF Europe is not sound nice for us, then how about learn the social benefits system in Japan? I met a Japanese, he was so surprised that we have to buy our own health insurances (medical cares for parents and etc.) individually in Malaysia. In Japan they having this social benefit as the Europe countries do.

What we have learned from the EAST since the Learn from EAST campaign had launched?

However, before doing this, we need to build up an efficiency, transparent and clean system in all related government departments. Besides, firm action against corruption activities is a MUST. However, the choice still in our hand, if we don’t practise our constitutional rights firmly then all of that is talk only just like the Government said Minimum wage is harmful to employers. Corruption makes our nation weak and losing money yet contribute to the inflation.

Should you think we should keep this as a common practise? We dare to remove cancer cells in our body firmly by all means because we know we will die if this cell continue to spread. However (see, how many times I repeat ”however”), we all know corruption is CANCER in our soceity but we don’t dare to remove it firmly. The concept is same, just we have to see it in BIG picture. Dare we?
