DAP Seputeh MP Teresa Kok was released at 1pm today, after being held under the Internal Security Act for a week, revealed her lawyer Sankara Nair.

At press time, she was at the Jalan Travers police station waiting for her release documents to be processed, he told Malaysiakini.

Kok walked out from the police station at 1.40pm along with Sankara and her personal aide, Mandy Ooi.

She will be holding a press conference at 3.30pm at the DAP headquarters in Petaling Jaya.[......]

Bukit Bendera to appeal to Umno Supreme Council to retract Ahmad’s suspension

The Bukit Bendera Umno division will file an appeal to the Umno Supreme Council (MT) to retract the decision to suspend the former division head, Datuk Ahmad Ismail, from all party posts for three years. Division secretary Ismadi Abu Bakar said although technically Ahmad was no longer the Bukit Bendera Umno division head, members of the division still regarded Ahmad as their head.

As such, he said the Bukit Bendera Umno division had agreed to appoint Ahmad as the division’s advisor. [......]

The police have arrested another blogger, Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz, in Kota Baru this afternoon.

According to PAS Kelantan state exco Husam Musa, the blogger (kickdefella.wordpress.com) was picked up from his house.

Not the power transition from current Government to “new Government”-lah.

Najib to take over as finance minister

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today said he would pass on his finance portfolio to his deputy Najib Abdul Razak, while he takes over as defence minister.

Abdullah told a press conference this afternoon that the swap in the cabinet posts will take effect immediately.[.......]

However, both leaders nevertheless reaffirmed their commitment to the 2010 power transition plan.[......]

Abdullah also touched on Anwar’s request for a meeting to discuss a power transfer to the opposition Pakatan Rakyat as he claimed to have enough defectors to form a new government.

He said that letter which was sent by Pakatan leaders did not mention about power transfer.

The prime minister also described Anwar as a “threat to the country’s economy as well as possible threat to security”.

“I will not indicate what plan I have,” when asked if he would take action against Anwar.

Najib has also been appointed deputy chairman of top government investment arm, Khazanah Holdings.

The press conference 2p.m. today, Anwar Ibrahim said that they have the number to form new Federal Government. BUT, the PR prefer to meet the current PM in order to make sure peaceful power transition. Their major concern is the stability of the nation and form the Government Constitutionally right. (more…)

Syed Hamid’s U-turn on ISA arrests

Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar has made a U-turn on a remark that he was not involved in the detention of three individuals under the Internal Security Act (ISA) last Friday.

According to a front-page report today in Malay daily Utusan Malaysia, Syed Hamid now said he had approved the detentions on behalf of the government, in carrying out his duty as a cabinet minister and not as any ‘outsider’. [.......]

[........]On Saturday, Syed Hamid had said he had not ordered the arrests and that the decision to hold DAP Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin and Sin Chew Daily journalist Tan Hoon Cheng were made by the police on their own discretion.[........]
