Alerted by Maverick SM about this piece of news.

Europestar? Pardon me, why Europestar?

When the Western world had said something not in favour of our current authorities, our authorities will said the Western world is bias to Malaysia, the Western world is not understand Malaysia, the Western world is blah, blah, blah…, we should look at Asia, think Asia, talk Asia blah, blah, blah….

HOWEVER, our Proton Gen.2 cars are shipped and re-badged as Europestar in China, why Europestar? Maverick SM has a good post entry regarding this, spend a little bit of your time there, perhaps.

More Proton models for China

TANJUNG MALIM: Proton Holdings Bhd, which is supplying Gen.2 cars to China-based Jinhua Youngman Automobile Group Ltd, is looking at exporting other models to the country in order to capture a larger market.

Head of China business Teo Aeng Kyet said Proton was negotiating with its Chinese partner to introduce different models in China.

“We have an agreement to supply 30,000 Gen.2 to Jinhua Youngman. We are also discussing with our partner to increase the order,” he told a media briefing prior to the second shipment of 348 Gen.2 to China yesterday.

“A total of 1,600 units of Gen.2 is scheduled to be shipped to China by end of next month in order to facilitate Jinhua Youngman’s sales launch programme in China,” he said.

He added that Proton did some minor modification to the Gen.2 to suit the local market.

To date, Proton has shipped 408 of the 30,000 units ordered by Jinhua Youngman. Proton will continue to ship 1,500 units of Gen.2 monthly over the next 20 months to fulfil the order.

Proton and Jinhua Youngman, a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer in China with a licence to produce passenger cars, signed an agreement on July 13 under which Proton cars would be re-badged as “Europestar” in China.

Teo said for a start, Proton was selling completely built-up units to Jinhua Youngman.

PM to get temple report from MIC

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has asked the MIC to monitor all the temples in the country and periodically submit a report on their status to the Cabinet, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said.

He said the Prime Minister had specifically wanted the MIC to forward to him and the Cabinet the list of any temples that may have to be demolished for various reasons.

Malaysia moves to preserve Hindu temples

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters)

[......]

“I will scrutinize all matters concerning temples with a view to ensure no temples are demolished in the future,” Works Minister S. Samy Vellu, the only ethnic Indian minister in the cabinet said in a statement.

MIC tasked with temple relocations, demolitions

MIC has been given the task to look into the status of all Hindu temples in the country and will submit a report on these temples to the cabinet.

In line with that, MIC president S Samy Vellu will travel nationwide to prepare the report on the number of Hindu temples and their problems.

This “new approach” follows a directive by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to MIC to continuously monitor all temples in the country and to submit a report on their status to the cabinet periodically.

So touch. Just curious, before the rally what they are doing there actually? How many temples were torn down before this? Just a thought, just a thought lah. (more…)

Sorry, we still have a long way to go

IF we prove to the World we have achieved a great improvement

in our local universities such as manuscripts publication, manuscripts citation,
our social care systems,
low crime rates in our society,
our public transportation systems,
corruption and transparency index,
press freedom index,
human rights records,
and you name it,

then, we really deserve to celebrate them big.

IF some achievement like showing the “biggest” flags in North pole*, I think we still have a long way to go. I do think we deserve better.

11 websites blocked so far

ELEVEN websites have so far been blocked for having obscene materials and seditious messages, Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Dr Mohd Ruddin Abdul Ghani said.

Besides blocking the websites and blogs, he said the ministry has also drawn up long-term programmes in collaboration with CyberSecurity Malaysia to boost awareness on cyber security among computer buffs.

To begin with, the www.esecurity.org.my website was launched recently, he told the Dewan Negara.

Dr Mohd Ruddin said it was not difficult to block websites and blogs compared with emails featuring advertisements and pornography.

He said there was no proper mechanism to check such material spreading through e-mails, but the authorities could control and halt blogs.

“However, the Cabinet will not obstruct the movement of information in the Internet because of the Bill of Guarantee, which promised free-flow of information when the Multimedia Super Corridor was first set up,” he said.

IPCMC and SCC

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

After waiting for so looooooooooooooooooooooong for the IPCMC to be set, we heard SCC in the end. Let’s listen what the ex-members of the Royal Commission to Enhance the Operation and Management of the Royal Malaysian Police said about this SCC.

Aziz revealed that the 16 members of the police royal commission were unanimous in the need for an IPCMC.

“There was not one dissenting voice to set up an independent police complaints and misconduct commission,” he said of the panel which included eminent legal minds such as former lord president Salleh Abas, former chief justice Dzaiddin Abdullah and ex-Bar Council president Khutubul Zaman Bukhari.

“Yet the government today has seen fit to change all that. It is a mockery. It shows total disdain for fairness, justice and equity. It shows total disrespect for public opinion. This is not the sort of document we want to see as part of our laws in this country.

“In fact, it is an insult to Parliament itself. So to say I’m disappointed is a really an understatement. I think this sense of disappointment, the sense of quiet outrage is shared by all right-thinking people - hoping that at long last this would be a rare opportunity for Malaysia to change the way the police work in this country.

According to Aziz, there is no police force in the world that has been known to be able to police itself.

“That is why you need this independent oversight group or committee. Obviously, if this bill goes through, we can say goodbye to all these high hopes and aspirations that one day we would have the best police force that money cannot buy.”

Just curious, why have the Royal Commission but doesn’t work according to their suggestions? For display purpose? @.@ (more…)

Interesting “survey(s)” and “NGOs”

Monday, December 17th, 2007

After the crackdown, we have more and more surveys result published in mainstream newspaper or more and more NGOs (appeared suddenly on the surface of Malaysia) came to front and voiced.

Present to you the latest survey which conducted on 17th December and 21st December 2007. Look carefully on the dates printed in newspaper. Yes, the survey is conducting on today and will be conducted in future but presenting to you the result now.

No to street protests
Picture adopted from Cakap Tak Serupa Bikin

On the other hand, theStar online had different dates mentioned (Correction had been done? I don’t know)

‘No’ to street protests

PETALING JAYA: A large majority of Malaysians are against street protests and have backed the government’s decision to use the laws to stop anyone from threatening racial peace and harmony.

This was revealed in a survey conducted by the Merdeka Centre from Dec 7 to 12. Eight hundred and sixty one respondents from throughout the country, who were randomly selected along the lines of state of residence, ethnicity, gender and age (21 and above) were interviewed over the telephone for the survey.

I said already, IF the authorities can accept the result of a survey take part by 861 Malaysians (we have 27,000,000 population in Malaysia) and why can’t they accept the other surveys which the results are not in favour of them? Don’t be bias. (more…)

After the crackdown

After ISA was used to detain several people back home, the World starts to voice their opinion. This article is from The Wall Street Journal.

Democracy in Malaysia
December 14, 2007

When Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi took office in 2004, he was welcomed as a modernizer who would expand democratic freedoms in Malaysia. Yesterday, his government resurrected the Internal Security Act, a colonial-era law that gives the executive almost unlimited power to detain opponents. The move raises serious questions about Mr. Abdullah’s commitment to democracy.
