Ready to boycott judiciary

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Will it becomes real? Does our current administration really listen to the truth? OR they are entirely perfect?

Be ready to boycott judiciary, lawyers told

[......]

Lawyer Haris Ibrahim then told the audience that something drastic would have to be done if the upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Malaysian Bar president S Ambiga bears no fruit.

“I think, at its extraordinary general meeting on Nov 22, the Bar must be prepared to take the necessary resolutions to put a stop to this nonsense.

“I’m suggesting that there’s no other way to drive the point home that, until the judiciary is clean, we will not take part in a system that has become so tainted (because) we (would be tarred) by the same brush,” he said firmly.

He cited the example of Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who was suspended by president Gen Pervez Musharraf on March 9.

This led to lawyers boycotting the courts, confronting riot police officers, burning pictures of Musharraf and holding nationwide protests. It resulted in the reinstatement of Chaudhry on July 20.

“They brought the administration of justice to a standstill. The judiciary cannot function without the legal profession, said Haris.

“I can’t see anything else than some drastic action by lawyers to say No, we’ve had enough, we will not take part in it; clean up the system and give us the royal commission or else.”

“If not, I don’t see any way else that can help us get out of this quagmire that we find ourselves in now.”

There was a roar of support and loud applause from the audience.

Perfect

In Malaysia, current administration is always right no matter how. I really curious that, what on earth things can be entirely without any flaws, defects, or shortcomings?

Batu Buruk riot: Fu blames the organisers

Deputy Internal Security Minister Fu Ah Kiow pinned the blame on the organisers of a ceramah (public forum) for the riot in Batu Buruk, Terengganu, last month.

In winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2008 in the Dewan Rakyat today, he said the incident could have been prevented if the organisers had followed the orders from the police.

“Even though the organisers had applied for a permit, it was rejected by the district police chief. No approval was given because of the unsuitability of the venue chosen,” said Fu.

Strong Expectations Of ECER Lifting Bursa To New Heights, Says Abdullah

KUANTAN, Oct 30 (Bernama) — Strong expectations from the RM112 billion-East Coast Economic Region (ECER) have helped to lift up the local stock market to new highs, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Tuesday.

“The response of the stock market has been very good. It (ECER) has to be among the reasons as the east coast economic development corridor has become a reality now,” Abdullah told reporters at the launch of the Pahang-level ECER master plan here today.

Really? Is that so? I have other guess, how about the General election is around the corner? (more…)

ACA, what do you say about this?

PAC: Arrest decision-makers too

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sends out a clear signal to the government that decision-makers, and not only civil servants, should also be arrested if they are also involved in the financial mismanagement outlined in the Auditor General’s (AG) annual report.

PAC chairperson Shahrir Abdul Samad said the government should not only arrest the subordinates but must ultimately bring the decision-makers to book as well.

“More can be done… those arrested are only civil servants with the least involvement in the scandals as they are people only responsible for receiving the goods,” he told reporters after a two-hour meeting with the Agriculture Ministry this afternoon.

“The decision-makers are those the authorities should arrest as they are the key players who made the decisions and ultimately the ones brokering deals with suppliers,” he explained.

Malaysian bloggers are rubbish?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

I learned this arrogant news from MageP’s Lab on yesterday evening. I tried to ignore it but I really can’t.

What kind of rubbish he had read in Malaysian blogs? This is not the first time those people use the word “rubbish” in order to show they are much better than the others. Are they really qualified to say other people as rubbish?

Will the toll rates raise?

Will the toll rates for the highways below raise?

source: Malaysiakini

Working paper on toll rates ready for Cabinet

PUTRAJAYA: The Works Ministry’s working paper on the toll rates by eight concessionaires, which are up for revision in January, is completed and will be submitted to the Cabinet this week.

Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said his duty was to explain the concession agreement to the Cabinet and inform ministers of the situation.

“The ministry must send the report to the Cabinet 60 days prior to the agreement taking effect.

“I will merely inform the Cabinet on the matter and it is up to the Cabinet to make a final decision. If the Cabinet says no (to increase toll rates), no (it will not be increased),” he said, adding that nothing had been discussed yet.

Price of flour was raised recently and you can imagine what is the impact to many daily goods. Price of petrol is high now in the international market, what happen next? Well, add more salt to the open wound. The toll rates for the highways are going to be raised too?

What is the impact(s) to the ordinary Malaysians or “non-rich” Malaysians? What is the impact?

Forget about them, we are going to build our own Satellite after the space programme for the internal security and defence purposes. Creep before you walk? (more…)

Second Angkasawan?

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

After the first so-called Angkasawan returned safely to earth, we have this in newspaper

Second Angkasawan can go up in 2010-2011

MOSCOW: The Russian Federal Space Agency has made an open offer to Malaysia to send a second Angkasawan to the International Space Station in late 2010 or 2011.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Malaysia had until 2009 to confirm its undertaking of a second space mission. He noted that the decision to send another Malaysian to space depended on the benefits such an endeavour would provide and the costs involved, as the next one would have to be funded by the Government.

Should we consider seriously what he had mentioned in the newspaper?

Second bid ‘may eat into funds’

JOHOR BARU: The plan to send a second Angkasawan to space should be carefully considered as it may eat into development funds.

Public Accounts Committee chairman Datuk Shahrir Samad said that while he was “not totally against” the plan, all the pros and cons had to be contemplated.

“Of course this project will help broaden our thinking and encourage the study of science and technology.

“However, as a developing country, we have many competing considerations and developmental projects,” he said, adding that the effect such an expensive project would have on the national expenditure also had to be considered.

He is right. Too much praise is a burden. (more…)
