Meaning of Merdeka (Independence) 50

Merdeka to the nation! Merdeka for my ambition!
Freedom of speech! Freedom of thought!
The benevolence of colonials, merdeka is not
Free! Unshackled! That’s the command of the Lord.

My universe is broad, the blessing of God.
I strive, but only He knows my fate and lot.
Oceans, mountains, and boundaries faze me not
The global waves a match for my surfing board.

My village abode is not my tether
The yonder wide world beckons me thither.
Firm on ground, the heavens above I praise
And pray my dream will find its rightful place.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
That is Allah’s command; His measured kindness.
It is not for kings and rulers to alter
Nor put boundaries to God’s desire.

Blessed with freedom and reason are God’s children
To lords and kings we are never beholden.
The feudal order had long been toppled
Let’s be clear, the sovereign is the people.

Ponder the fate of one Idi Amin
That of Shah Pahlavi was equally grim!
These realities our leaders must heed
“Power to the People!” is the new creed.

Praise the wandering son, our true hero
Heeding the call when the distant wind blows.
This “us” versus “them” makes little sense
True to yourself, that is the essence.
Blessed our forefathers for that lesson.

My roots have deepened in this foreign soil
Affected or not, so too my Western drawl.
The spicy taste of yore has lost its punch
Still, the old Malay can, … lah! In a crunch!

Far across the ocean the old abode beckons
My kith and kind, Oh! They readily come to mind!
As I ponder, the heart grows fonder
Reliving stories of days yonder.

The young has flown, the empty nest silent
Sadness yes, but memories remain vibrant.
Freedom! Merdeka! Such intoxicating beauty!
With fondness and passion, I readily embrace thee.

Warning to Namewee in Taliban way?

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Alerted by Screenshots.

What is that all about? As Screenshots said, to tell the world how Malaysians use YouTube?

OR

They “wish” Malaysian passports to be blacklisted by many countries on this planet?

Have they really considered about the others? Those Malaysians currently abroad or going to be abroad for business/study/vacation? If Namewee was labelled as unpatriotic to Malaysia then how about this one? (more…)

When I read this piece of news, I really wonder who should be warned about that and who should be told about that too.

Najib: Don’t use contentious issues to gain support

KUALA LUMPUR: Politicians must not sow hatred and suspicion by bringing up contentious issues just to gain support, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“Politicians of all stripes in the quest for support must never employ the maxim that the end justifies the means.

“Is the pursuit of political support the be all and end all of a political party? Are we so desperate for votes that we are willing to sow hatred and suspicion?

“We should all be watchful of what we say, not because we cannot say them, but how best we can say them. Contentious issues should not be addressed in a contentious manner,” he said at the opening of the Road to Nationhood: Unity Amidst Diversity photo exhibition yesterday.

Almost Half Of Murder Cases Solved

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) — Police solved 154 cases or 46.6 per cent of 330 murder cases this year until July, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

Last year, the police solved 277 (45.8 per cent) of the 604 murder cases, while 328 (65.9 per cent) of 497 cases were solved in 2005.

Abdullah who is also the Internal Security Minister, disclosed this in his written reply to Fong Po Kuan (DAP-Batu Gajah) in the Dewan Rakyat Tuesday who wanted to know the number of murder, rape and snatch theft cases solved since 2005.

On rape cases, Abdullah said until July, 1,640 (89.81 per cent) of 1,826 cases were solved.

He said in 2006, investigations into 86.54 per cent or 2,104 of 2,431 cases were completed compared with 1,644 (85.09 per cent) of 1,932 cases the previous year.

On snatch thefts, he said until July, 2,290 of 6,215 cases were solved, while 4,264 of 9,551 cases were solved in 2006 and 5,325 of 9,617 cases solved in 2005.

I prefer less cases happened in our society than how many cases have been solved. (more…)
