Bloggers back home are paid up to RM 100k/month?!!

Well, according to Mike Tyson anyway (read: Berita Harian in Malay). If he’s right about foreign organizations paying bloggers back home up to RM 100k per month, I’m gonna buy the first ticket back to KL and be a full-time blogger. But then again, these words came from the very person that made a police report accusing RPK of insulting the Agong and Islam in his blog.

Does Mike Tyson have any factual proof to substantiate his claims?

Actually how many police force we need to have in our country?

Present to you, the new suggestion for another new police ~ Cyber police. Yes, it still all about the bloggers.

Umno Youth Proposes Formation Of Cyber Police

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) — The government was today urged to form a cyber police unit to maintain surveillance over the acivities of bloggers.

Federal Territory Umno youth head, Datuk Paduka Norza Zakaria said the Internal Security; Energy, Water and Communications; Science, Technology and Innovation; and Information Ministries should also take immediate action on the matter.

“The government should take firm action against the irresponsible bloggers according to existing law,” Norza said in a statement representing Umno youth at state levels.

The statement was issued following a police report made by Umno on July 23 against the owner and operator of “Malaysia Today”, Raja Petra Kamarudin, for publishing sensitive comments on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s position and on racist issues through the blog’s website on July 11 2007.

Norza said according to section 121 (B) and Section 123 of the Penal Code, Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 263 and 266 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, being a publisher, Raja Petra Kamarudin was responsible for providing clear warning to every person who gives comments that they were responsible for their comments.

He said Umno Youth wanted stern action to be taken against Raja Petra including under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for failing to carry out his responsibilities.

Norza also asked the mainstream media not to publish unconfirmed information from websites.

Bloggers are monkey+goblok?

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

Apparently, there are many negative names for Malaysian bloggers ~ people who shoot and run, liars, society destroyer, rumour creators, slander spreader, and the latest one is MONKEY behave and the latest one is Goblok (Indonesian slang for “stupid”)

What you can read in newspaper nowadays is a message sending to people on daily basis that

Blogger = Liars, society destroyer, rumour creators, slander spreader, Monkey, goblok

What is that all about? So many “evil” names for Bloggers for what purpose? Gentleman? You tell me.

Message is clearly send and how many Malaysians are really digest it before they are jump to conclusion? I have my fingers crossed for this. Will they buy the stories be told in mainstream newspaper? Will they think, digest, or give a chance to hear out the other side’s words before they buy it completely? I have my fingers crossed for this.

Friday, July 27th, 2007

I read summary of this survey few days ago in Malaysians Abroad forum. This survey was carried out by Reader’s Digest. They dropped 30 mobile phones in 32 cities (included Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) purposely and find out how many mobile phone they can get back. Unfortunately, Malaysia scored the worst.

Excuse Me, Is This Your Phone?

[......]

On the low end of the spectrum, Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong tied for the worst performance. In each city, just 13 of the 30 phones were returned.

Raja Petra Kamarudin says thank you

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

In his latest article,

I have received more than a thousand phone calls, SMSes and e-mails from well-wishers and supporters. I have not found the time to reply to each and everyone yet so I hope you will forgive me for my rudeness. I am certainly touched by the concern and the messages of support posted in Malaysia Today’s blogs. From the bottom of my heart, and with sincere humility, I thank you all and promise you that the fight for more freedom in Malaysia shall continue come hell or high water.

Well, maybe you can spare some time to read his latest article. I think you don’t want to miss it, I think. (more…)

Tough Action Against Bloggers?

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

After Nat Tan, then Raja Petra Kamarudin; and now the Senator Wants Tough Action Against Bloggers. Why?

“The lack of a specific act to supervise bloggers gave them the space to spread lies which touch the sensitivity of the community. It can become a threat to peace,” said Senator Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi when debating the Electronic Government Activities Bill 2007 in the Dewan Negara.

Senator Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir who spoke in support of Dr Puad said cyber crimes committed by bloggers could destroy the nation. “This is because there are leaders who use information posted on blogsites as reference. This posed a danger to the country,” he added.

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

After our Deputy Prime Minster said Malaysia Not Secular State (17th July 2007), 2 days after that all mainstream newspaper received a “very friendly” reminder letter from the Internal Security Ministry. Yet, our Education Minister also warned you-know-what-party-is to shut up. Now, you tell me what country we are actually? Malaysia constitution is the supreme laws?

I felt very sad about this, they hurt other people’s feeling first but they don’t allow other different opinions. Who caused the tension at very first place? Sad.
